Recent SCAD Alum, Taylor Pemberton, has wasted little time in getting his feet wet in the NYC design scene. He's currently art directing for his men's essentials company, Cavalier, which actually started as a class project at SCAD. He is also working with a company called Wantful where the user creates a basic list of 16 gifts for someone to choose their favorite. That favorite item is then shipped with a custom book as well.

Taylor graduated in 2011 and immediately went to work on Cavalier. Taylor let Graphic Design Alert in a bit more on how the project came to be:
Cavalier: A Tale of Chivalry, Passion, and Great HousesCavalier was born in two distinct phases. While in my senior year at SCAD, I created the prefix of "Cavalier Essentials" in Jason Frazier's package design class. I decided to keep the project relatively private for a while because I felt it needed a larger environment to embody. The project really came together when I worked with a few friends to produce a look book, website, and lifestyle branding campaign, which was released in February of 2011.

After that, the project received a great deal of attention from design blogs, publications, buyers, boutiques, and consumers. I was contacted soon thereafter by a company called Wantful, who wanted to feature the Cavalier products in their tailored assortment of exceptional products. I ended up joining Wantful to lead design and their NYC operations. We then ended up working together to develop and launch Cavalier as a company with a full line of products.
When asked about what is next, Taylor responded with the following:
In the short term, I'm trying to improve as a person, director, friend, and designer. I think what we're doing at Wantful is incredible, and it pushes me each day to become better at the things I lack. With Cavalier, I want to make products that last and become better over time. In the long term, I'd love to keep growing with those who I respect and eventually create a portfolio of products, businesses, and investments. I have a strong belief that designers are better suited than ever to make an impact. We are seeing a massive recurrence of design theory and those who see the value and respect its importance.
